PROVIDENCE - The Gregorian Choir, directed by Father Anthony Mancini, will perform a benefit concert in memory of the late Dr. C. Alexander Peloquin, Nov. 20, 3 p.m., at the Cathedral of SS. Peter & Paul, One Cathedral Square. The choir will be accompanied by the Festival Orchestra.

“People should come to the concert because it is a benefit for the Interfaith Dire Emergency Fund,” Father Mancini stated, noting Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s recent establishment of a drive, called Bishop
Tobin’s ‘Keep the Heat On Challenge’ to raise money for fuel assistance provided by the fund.

“The matter is more urgent for poor and marginal families,” Father Mancini emphasized, addressing the plight that many Rhode Island citizens will face this winter.

The concert will honor Peloquin, who served as music director of the Cathedral for 50 years. “He was an outstanding musician,” the priest said. “He was the most important composer of liturgical music during the transition from the Mass in Latin to the Mass in English.” Father Mancini noted that the Gregorian Choir, the resident choir at the
cathedral, has released a CD, ‘Radiating Christ,’ produced by GIA Publications. The compact disc is available at local religious goods stores.

Tickets for the concert may be obtained by calling the Cathedral office, 331-3124, and will be available at the door.
