Helping Thousands of Rhode Islanders Stay Warm
(NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I.)- The Most. Rev. Thomas J. Tobin, Bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence, will mark the 10th year anniversary of the diocesan ‘Keep the Heat On’ heating assistance program on Thursday, November 6th at 11:00 a.m. The bishop will kick-off the campaign at the residence of a North Smithfield family who has benefitted from the program.
“Keep the Heat On, now in its tenth year, continues to be a very important and effective program for our Church and community. By providing heating assistance to those who have no other place to turn, it makes a real difference – perhaps a life-saving difference – for individuals and families throughout our state. I hope that those who are able to do so will be as generous again this year as they have been in the past,” said Bishop Tobin.
Established in 2005, ‘Keep the Heat On’ has provided heating assistance to Rhode Islanders who have exhausted all other public and private forms of assistance. The program has raised more than $1.5 million to help more than 7,800 Rhode Island families and individuals coping with financial struggles to pay their heating bills.
‘Keep the Heat On’ is funded by grants from the Catholic Charity Appeal and donations from generous individuals and businesses who believe that no Rhode Island family should be forced to live without heat during the winter months. The program has received over $525,000 in grants from the Appeal since its inception.
Rhode Islanders who need heating assistance may call 401.421.7833 x207 or log onto www.heatri.com for additional information or to apply online. Applicants must demonstrate ineligibility for other federal, state and private assistance. All inquiries are confidential. Those who would like to make a donation to this program and give the gift of heat are invited to send a check to Keep the Heat On, One Cathedral Square, Providence, Rhode Island 02903, or visit www.heatri.com and use the secure web server for credit card donations.
