PROVIDENCE — Kristen Costa, 35, is a supermom. She’s caring for her two children, navigating work, motherhood and her own personal health concerns — in a pandemic no less. The Rumford resident was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer and has been recuperating from a partial hysterectomy. She had a payment plan with National Grid for her electric, but was unable to keep current with the agreed upon budget plan plus the current bill. Finances were getting tight.

PROVIDENCE — After another difficult winter, “Keep the Heat On,” the heating assistance program for the Diocese of Providence, continued to provide great relief to Rhode Islanders struggling to pay their utility bills, many due to circumstances brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.
(PROVIDENCE, R.I.) – The Roman Catholic Diocese of Providence has announced that the National Grid Foundation has made another major gift donation for its ‘Keep the Heat On’ heating assistance program. The donation of $250,000 is the eighth major gift that the heating assistance program has accepted from the Foundation and the largest to date, more than double last year’s donation of $100,000.
As we approach the end of 2020 and the last chance to make a tax-deductible charitable donation to a program that makes a real impact and fulfills a real need for Rhode Islanders, please consider a donation in any amount in support of Keep the Heat On.

As its 14th season comes to a close, the diocesan “Keep the Heat On” program, founded in 2005 by Bishop Thomas J. Tobin, has surpassed $3 million in heating assistance provided to those most in need from across Rhode Island.
