The Gregorian Concert Choir and Festival Orchestra will present a Concert entitled “The Sounds of the Season” at the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul, Providence on Sunday, Dec. 8 at 3 p.m. The Concert, featuring the music of Advent and Christmas, will benefit the Diocese of Providence’s “Keep the Heat On” fund, which assists poor and low income families with utility expenses. Tickets for the concert may be purchased by calling the Cathedral office at 401-331-2434. Tickets will also be available at the door on the day of the concert.

PROVIDENCE — Anyone who has experienced Rhode Island’s seasons can attest to the fact that winters can be unbearably cold and unpredictable. For years, the Diocese of Providence has been helping those in financial need keep their furnaces running against the chill of a New England winter. Since 2005, the Keep the Heat On campaign has been an important aspect of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s ministry to the state of Rhode Island. EAST PROVIDENCE — On the Feast of Saint Nicholas, Dec. 6 — and in the spirit of the generous saint — the Masse family at Paul Masse Chevrolet in East Providence presented Bishop Thomas J. Tobin with a large donation to benefit vital ministries of the Diocese of Providence. The family donated $250,000 to the Catholic Charity Appeal, which through its many ministries, provides social, educational and spiritual support to thousands of Rhode Islanders each year. A gift of $50,000 was given to the Diocesan Assistance Fund which provides charitable support for a number of causes. When Bishop Tobin kicked off the beginning of this year’s “Keep the Heat On” challenge, which he initiated almost 18 years ago upon coming to Providence, he encouraged the students...
The Diocese of Providence granted $411,637.10 in heating assistance this season, the most aid it has provided in the 17-year history of Bishop Thomas J. Tobin’s Keep the Heat On Program. This amount is more than double the $171,119.55 in assistance it provided last season.
PROVIDENCE — The Keep the Heat on Program for the Diocese of Providence has never experienced a heating season quite like this one before. So far this heating season, KTHO staff have already assisted 437 households compared to 183 at this time last year.
